ASTM A295

is a specification that covers 52100 high carbon quality bearing steel,
which will be used in the production of rolling bearings. A 52100 bearing steel is the most common steel in ASTM A295 for high carbon anti-friction bearing steel.

What is 52100 Bearing Steel?

AISI / ASTM

52100 bearing steel is a high carbon, chromium containing low alloy
steel that through hardening and noted, in particular, for use as
bearings.

52100 bearing steel is a kind of special steel with characteristics
high wear resistance and rolling fatigue strength. High carbon chromium
bearing steel, structural steel and some types of stainless steel and
heat resistant steels are used as bearing materials and for other
goals.

Advantages of Chrome 52100 Bearing Steel:

Superior hardness, 60-67 Rockwell hardness (Rc) at room temperature

chrome high carbon alloy steel

Works continuously at temperatures up to 120 กใ C

Used for the production of precision ball bearings and roller bearings

Cost effective
4. Forging A295 52100 bearing steel

AISI

52100 alloy steel forging at 927 to 1205 กใ C, and must not be forged
below 925ºC. Treatment after forging is recommended at 745ºC in

for 4-6 hours followed by air cooling for SAE / AISI steel 52100.

6. Heat treatment for ASTM 52100 bearing steel

ASTM / AISI

52100 bearing steel alloy is heated at a temperature of 816 กใ C followed by cooling in
oil. Before performing this process, it is subjected to thermal normalization

processing at 872 กใ C, followed by slow cooling in order to reduce
handling stress.

Hot working

AISI 52100 bearing alloy steels can be hot worked at 205 to 538 กใ C.

Cold deformation

AISI 52100 bearing steel can be cold worked using conventional methods under annealed or normalized conditions.

annealing

For spheroidize anneale, the following isothermal annealing is recommended:

1500ºF (815ºC) for 3 hours

1350ºF (735ºC) for 4 hours

1250ºF (675ºC) for 3 hours

Slow cooling to 1000ºF (540ºC) followed by air cooling.

extinguishing

AISI 52100 alloy bearing steel can be quenched by water quenching from 801-829 degree or oil quenching from 816-842 degrees.

temper

Tempers to the desired hardness, as shown by the quenching curves after water or oil quenching.

5. Application of steel 52100 bearing

Alloy

52100 steel grade bearing steel is mainly used for the production
aircraft bearings and other heavily loaded parts. This steel grade
52100 steel, preferably the vacuum arc is remelted to give optimum
performance.
