Applications
- AISI 301 is a commonly available austenitic stainless with good corrosion resistance and elevated carbon to allow for cold working to a variety of tempers.
AISI 301 stainless steel is ideal for custom flat springs and custom sheet metal stampings that require resistance to corrosion and elevated temperatures. Common applications for 301 stainless steel stampings, include: Aircraft structural parts/Trailer bodies/Architectural (roof drainage/door frames, etc.)/Auto body trim and wheel covers/Utensils and tableware/Conveyor parts

Heat treatment
While cold forming is recommended wherever feasible, forging, upsetting and other operations can be performed at 1800-2100 F. Temperatures above this range will cause scaling and a reduction in the workability of the material. Post-process annealing is required to re-attain maximum corrosion resistant properties.
